Company Description Filmakers Library has been distributing documentary films for 46 years, starting with a landmark, cinema verité documentary called Birth and Death. Recently, an Academy Award-nominated film, Finding Vivian Maier, was added to the Collection, which has grown to over 1,300 films.

Filmakers carries films with a constantly widening perspective of issue-oriented documentaries. Gathering films from both American independents as well as filmmakers from all over the world, Filmakers makes these documentaries available to the educational market.

In 2011, the Filmakers Library joined forces with the publisher Alexander Street Press (ASP) - the world’s leading provider of academic streaming media to libraries - and launched a subscription-based online streaming database, Filmakers Library Online.
